The eye camp in Liwale, a complete success.
The eye camp in Liwale in 2024/2025 was a great success for everyone involved. From the surgeon to the cook, everyone worked hard to make the camp a success. Over 53 cataract surgeries and 10 pterygoidectomies were performed in 6 days, along with comprehensive patient care. And to top it all off, everyone received a pair of custom-made glasses. We're already looking forward to the next camp in October.

4. The second follow-up examination with eye measurements took place from January 6th to January 10th, 2025.
The second post-operative examination, including eyeglass prescription measurement, took place from January 6th to 10th, 2025. Eyeglass prescriptions can only be measured once the surgery has been successfully completed. Each patient and each eye must be measured individually, as all eyes have different prescriptions. It is crucial that no eye is mixed up!
For the operation to be successful, the patients' eyes must be measured precisely.

The surgeries took place from November 11th to 16th, 2024, at the new hospital in Liwale. We were there for a week. Fifty-three patients underwent cataract surgery, some even on both eyes. In addition, approximately ten patients had pterygium surgery. If necessary, patients were admitted to the hospital, provided with food and drink, and their travel expenses were also covered.

1. The initial examination of the patients. The so-called screening.
In two villages (Barikiwa and Kibutuka) and in Liwale itself, patients with eye problems were notified via loudspeaker and asked to report to their dispensary. There they were examined and treated. In total, more than 200 patients were screened, and 60 of them were invited to Liwale for surgery.
The patients are waiting for their initial examination.
